
For all in-class exams, and for final exams in courses with only one section (including LUTHER, Off-campus, and First Nations U sections):
The use of calculators for exams is left to the discretion of the instructor. The instructor's policy regarding the use of calculators for exams in the course should appear clearly on the course outline. Students preparing for professional acuarial exams are directed to consult the exam regulations of the Society of Actuaries.
For Mathematics 101: No calculators allowed on the Final Exam.
For all Multisection classes with Common Final Exams (including Math 103, Math 110, Math 111, Math 122, and Stat 100):
As a general rule, the Department adheres to the calculator policy used for SAT examinations for all common final exams. In any case an instructor does have the discretion to deviate from this rule provided their calculator policy is clearly stated in their course syllabus.
Calculators permitted during testing are:
If a student has a calculator that has a raised display that can be seen by other students, then the student can be seated at the discretion of the instructor.
The following are *not* acceptable calculators, and are *not permitted* to be used during an exam:
Hand-held translators are not to be allowed unless the instructor considers it necessary for a particular situation.
Students are expected to be solely responsible for the operation of their calculator. Instructors are not be expected to provide any assistance with any aspect of calculator use.
